From Thorntons Investments to Drumnor Investments: A Letter From Andrew McLean

November 25, 2025

To our much valued clients, I’m delighted to share an exciting update with you that Thorntons Investment Management has now rebranded to Drumnor Investments.

I appreciate that change can be disconcerting for some, but we feel this change is an important milestone, having been operating as a standalone business for some time.

Just under thirteen years ago, Thorntons Investment Management was incorporated as a discretionary investment firm, having originally been part of Thorntons Law. While we shared a name and proud heritage with one of Scotland’s leading legal practices, we have now grown to be a significant business in our own right, serving private clients, trusts, and charities from our head office in Dundee, and team in Edinburgh.

Over the last thirteen years the business has seen many developments, and rebranding to Drumnor Investments represents this growth as a fully independent firm.

In choosing Drumnor, we looked for a name with natural gravitas and a nod to our Scottish roots. ‘Drum’ comes from the Gaelic druim, meaning elevated ground. We felt this offered connotations of perspective, steadiness and vision. ‘Nor’ represents direction. It is a name that neatly encapsulates qualities that align with us as a firm and as individuals.

  • A trusted, independent investment partner, rooted in Scotland but serving
    clients across the UK.
  • A firm that combines experienced judgment with a forward-looking
    mindset.
  • A business built on relationships, integrity, and long-term thinking.

We will gradually be transitioning to the new name and brand and will keep you updated with progress.

Although the name and branding will change, I am quite certain that, for you, everything else will remain as it was. The people and names you have become familiar with are still here, our investment philosophy remains unchanged, and we continue to work in unison with our financial planning peers and Thorntons Solicitors. Many of the founding shareholders who were in place in 2012 remain active and engaged investors with us.

We remain committed to treating you as individuals and offering a genuinely personalised and bespoke service. Being accessible, on first name terms, and responsive guides everything we do, and is what, I believe, sets us apart from some of our much larger peers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and for putting trust in us as your investment manager. It is not a position we take lightly or for granted.

From Monday 1st December you will start to see changes, including changes to our branding, website, email addresses, etc. If you happen to contact us on an old email address or the previously noted main telephone number, do not worry, we will continue to pick these up for a period of time.

Should you have any questions regarding the rebrand, or the firm more generally, please do reach out to me directly. Alternatively, Sarah, Gail and Matthew are on hand to answer any queries.

Warm regards and best wishes,

Andrew McLean
